OUR STORY IN A FEW WORDS…

Spearheaded by a DIY ethos, ModyWorks was originally conceived in New York as an outlet for a series of 12-inch records by mutant pop singer Almamy.

The label’s debut was a twin EP project, The Sexy Boy EP /... B.M.D. and The Sexy Boy EP /... L.Y.D. It was followed by Almamy’s 12” single “Like You Do,“ featuring remixes by rising and veteran DJ/producers, such as Italian duo En Masse, BeTrash’s Ben & Nouch and fabled wizard-in-chief Seelenluft, before the idiosyncratic singer issued the Don’t Ask Me/French Kiss two-tracker.

Growing from a one-artist bedroom operation into a creative hot house with ongoing commitment to freewheelers, sonic exploration and the avant-garde, ModyWorks has been home to beatsmith Aman Ellis and his discofied project AIMES, the twisted electro musings of Beetnik, F.r.a.c.t.a.l’s noise, pop auteur extraordinaire JMI, Matthew Finch’s lo-fi ai and the abstract speed of the slashsound imprint, founded by Adam Cuthbért and Daniel Rhode as a haven for composers, producers and A/V artists with a bent for virgin territory.

Now based in Los Angeles, ModyWorks Ltd. functions as an umbrella for ModyWorks Recording Company, ModyWorks Publishing Company, ModyWorks+ (R&D) and cultural hub GudWerks, and as a multidisciplinary studio championing visual artists as exploratory as their musical counterparts.
